Mary aka Mesonjixx’ sound, writings, and performance-ethic are rooted in her Blackness, queerness and collaboration; a nuanced, complex pattern of light held by a thread of subconscious notions of pain, pleasure and unwavering joy. As deep and expansive as the South Pasifika, formative Red Clay. Soft, wet forever, earth. An ever-evolving experiment.
Soon after her performance debut in 2015, Mesonjixx has not only become a fixture of the Nebraska music scene, but has risen to the top of artists in the Midwest. As solo, duo, and full band – Mesonjixx has drawn some of the most talented musicians of Nebraska.
Her trio, with keyboardist and producer Nate Asad (f.k.a INFNTLP) and percussionist John Evans, was selected to open for Kamasi Washington’s recent performance in Omaha in 2020, and was a returning festival favorite at True/False Independent Film Festival in Columbia, Missouri (2019, 2020).
Mary looks forward to releasing a new record in 2023 of songs she has been writing and grappling with for the last four years. She began recording in August 2022 in Atlanta with musician, producer Graham Ulicny of Thick Paint.
